The Tourism Ministry validates tourist projects

For a total of 3 billion 100 million dollars

PUERTO PLATA.- Projects in which 3 billion 100 million dollars will be invested in 5 provinces were validated by the Tourist Development Board ( CONFOTOUR) of the Tourism Ministry (SECTUR).

Francisco Javier García said that the Puerto Plata destination was included in the investment projects that were validated during the last CONFOTOUR session.

He explained that these projects will add 14 thousand new hotels rooms.

Javier García added that in addition to Puerto Plata, these projects will develop in the provinces of La Altagracia (Higüey); La Romana, Samaná and Juan Dolio (San Pedro de Macorís).

The Tourism Minister said that in order to consolidate the sector sustainable growing, to widen the range of tourist offer, and in order to make investments in the different tourist points of the country, it was necessary to follow up the works that started in Puerto Plata.

He announced that the weekly flights arriving from Russia will rise to 4 in November, 5 in December of this year and 6 in March, with a flight that for the first time will arrive to the International Airport Gregorio Luperón.

By this way, Javier García referred to the results of his last visit in various countries of Europe, as France and Russia, in order to promote the Dominican tourist destinations.

The rural electrification program of CDEEE is in progress in Puerto Plata

The electricity will soon reach all the rural zones of the country

The rural electrification program that by disposition of the Government, is carrying out trough the Dominican Corporation of State Enterprises (CDEEE), is developed in a 95% portion in the Puerto Plata Province.

The PLD deputy Juan Carlos Quiñónez said that the rural electrification project was a compromise of the Government of the President Leonel Fernández, carried out by the CDEEE managed by the engineer Radhamès Segura.

Quiñónez revealed that according to diverse surveys realized by different international organisms, the Dominican Republic was electrified in more than 93% and that 7% remained without the electrical service.

The PLD legislator, affirmed that thanks to the electrification process set by the president Fernández, the country is beneficiating from an electricity service that almost reach 100%, even if some very isolated zones are lacking.

He ensured that the President will keep the promise he made during the last electoral campaign, and that the electricity will reach all the rural zones of the country.

Asphalting coming soon

PUERTO PLATA. - Work of several infrastructures which is carrying out by the municipal government, through the provision of Mayor Walter Musa, of which two are in their final stage, continues at accelerated rhythm, informed the executive of the municipal council, Edison García.

García indicated that among work that currently the town hall is carrying out, there is the rebuilding of the section of the Colón Avenue which goes from 12 de Julio Street to the Restauración treet, which still could not be asphalted because of the rains of the last days.

The civil servant revealed that another infrastructure on the point to be finished is the park of the section El Cupey section, to which it misses only small details, and which could be inaugurated by the authorities of the commune of Puerto Plata on Sunday November 2.

Edison García stressed that rebuilding works of the Altagracia Street of the Eduardo Brito extension, where roadways and pavements are currently built are as well advanced and that they will be able to asphalt it very soon.

He explained that the sports complex which is built in the district of Progreso Villa following requests of the youth of the sector and of sporting leagues is also in good way. Just like the Juan García Park (Número Uno Park) which they hope to have terminated in next December.

The rapid expansion of the hotel rooms emphasized

The Province of Puerto Plata counts more or less 18 thousand hotel rooms, split up into 179 hotel complexes, whose a part is concentrated in the tourist property of Playa Dorada.

The statistics show that 4 thousand rooms pertain to 14 tourist centers managed by Hotels Associations, Condominiums and Commercial Centers of Playa Dorada.

In the tourist municipality of Sosua, there are 4 568 rooms, in Cabarete 3 521, while in Maimón, there are 350, in Cofresi-Costambar, 369, in Luperón 218 and Punta Rusia and La Isabela joined together count 35.

The concentration of this great quantity of hotels in this particular area, according to the data provided by the main managers of the associations which grouped them, generate an averageof 20 000 jobs, figure which is now down by 20% this due to the low season and the world economic crisis.
