Calm and festivities reigned on the beaches and seaside resorts of Puerto Plata

Principal tourist pole of the Northern area of Dominican Republic

BREAKING NEWS: Puerto Plata. - The break of Holy Week occurred relatively normally on the beaches and seaside resorts and in the hotel centers from the principal tourist pole of the Northern area of Dominican Republic, according to the reports of the local office of the Secretariat of Tourism.

César de los Santos, under-secretary of Tourism for the Northern area, informed that the principal hotels of Cofresí, Playa Dorada and Costambar, in addition to those of the center of the commune, had been occupied by the foreign and Dominican tourists on holiday for this Holy Week period.

He stressed that the principal beaches like Sosúa, Cabarete, Playa Grande, Río San Juan, Cofresí, Costambar, Long Beach, Bergantín and Cuarto de Milla, had been fully occupied by thousands of bathers, who found these environments completely clean and with assistance and information of Sectur.

De los Santos underlined the work of the Tourist Police and of the volunteers who with the Tourism portfolio, were added to the precautionary measures adopted by the National Emergency Committee and the Civil Defense to prevent incidents and to avoid regrettable situations.

Introduction of the candidates to MR UNIVERSE 2009

The pre elimination will take place in Puerto Plata

BREAKING NEWS: The candidates to the title of Mr Universe 2009 were introduced during a cocktail in the Malecon Center. This year, the pre elimination round will take place in Puerto Plata, Saturday April 18^th, on the stage of the hotel Barceló Puerto Plata.

Models, designers and medias were present to this meeting, without forgetting the personalities linked to the fashion and beauty sectors in Dominican Republic.

Robert Flores, producer and general director of the contest thanked the medias for their support, as well as the sponsors that enable the realization of this event.

He declared that Mr Universe 2009, is an event filled with emotions and hopes that will take place in Dominican Republic, with the participation of the best models of the world, during a program that will travel all over the main touristic zones of the country as Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, La Romana and Punta Cana.

The most beautiful bodies of the universe will be exhibited in order to choose the best physical appearance, face and show of international typical clothing.

The contest will end with a great show in the Barceló Punta Cana hotel, on April 24^th.

It will welcome candidates from Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras, Chile, Canada, Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, India, Haiti, USA, Mexico, Russia, Armenia, Monaco, Panama etc…

New measures to revive Sosúa and Cabarete

An international publicity campaign

BREAKING NEWS: SOSÚA, Puerto Plata.- The Government of the Dominican Republic will adopt series of measures aiming at boosting the tourist pole of Sosúa, located in the north of the island, announced the secretary of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, after a meeting with company managers; investors, promoters of projects, mayors and associations of workers of the Northern zone.

The civil servant said that one of the measures would be the construction of an hospital in Sosúa as well as the improvement of the conditions of the garbage dump, planning and order of the trade on the beaches and asphalting of the roads.

In the same way, he announced the launching of an international publicity campaign on the destination of Puerto Plata, the construction of an amphitheatre in Punta Puntilla and the resumption of work of the underwater park.

Other work put out to tender by García is two car parks in Sosúa and Cabarete in order to relieve the congestion of the flow of the vehicles in these zones.

He said that he would inform the Department of Planning and Projets (DPP) of the Secretariat of Tourism to plan the embellishment of the beach of Sosúa.

In another order, Javier García said that from July, Puerto Plata would belong to the tourist poles having new roads; this is why this zone had been included in the National Asphalting Plan; started recently with the Secretariat of Tourism.

In this way, he asked the mayors of Puerto Plata, Sosúa and Cabarete to identify the ways which need to be reconditioned.

With the directors of the Association of the Salesmen and Artisans of the Beach of Sosúa, he required that they form a commission which will work with the technicians of Sectur for the planning of the business.

Dominican hoteliers join forces to boost Puerto Plata

To stimulate the creation of new businesses

BREAKING NEWS: Puerto Plata.– Puerto Plata, the most important city in Dominican Republic’s north coast owns countless tourist attractions and sites of great historic and cultural value that should be taken better advantage of and put to better use.

For this purpose, the Associations of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Business of Puerto Plata (Ashonorte), the Playa Dorada Hotel, Condominium and Commercial Establishment Owners Association (AHPD) and the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Sosua and Cabarete (Ashoresoca) have joined forces and signed a strategic alliance.

According to the document, the alliance will set in motion a plan to promote Puerto Plata as a tourist destination and will stimulate the creation of new businesses and complementary offers and will cooperate with the city´s Historic Center Office in its tasks of remodeling, beautifying and revitalizing this cultural and commercial area.
