Politur carries out vigilance operations

BREAKING NEWS: The commander of the head office of the Tourist Police (Politur), Luís Antonio Peña Pérez, gave instructions to all his staff in order they watch on a 24 hours basis all the littoral of the pier of Puerto Plata.

Peña Pérez took this decision because of the great quantity of bathers and people visiting this tourist coast.

He added that one of the principal responsibilities of this institution was to take care of the protection of the Dominican or foreign tourists.

Since his designation as supervisor of the Police of Tourism, Peña Pérez showed interest and concern so that its members make a good work for the visitor, in order to guarantee a good stay in the country.

Commemoration in Puerto Plata

For the birth of General Gregorio Luperón

BREAKING NEWS: This Thursday, the inhabitants of Puerto Plata commemorate the 170th anniversary of the birth day of the General Gegorio Luperón, who is considered as the best soldier of the Dominican Republic Restoration War.

Historians say that the strength and courage of this warrior, worthy of military glory, was a decisive point in the struggle for the freedom of Dominican territory, dominated by Spanish authorities.

The Northwest line of Santiago and other cities of the Cibao, as well as many regions of the country were able to witness the actions of this Dominican patriot.

A tourist road, an international airport and a Malecón were called Luperón after the general.

The name of the soldier also was given to Puerto Plata areas and to a school in Sosúa between others.

President Fernández, as asked the inhabitants of Puerto Plata, will start the construction works of the House Museum of the General Gregorio Luperón.
